No. 96: LaSpada’s Hoagie

Two words. Meat. Blanket. LaSpada’s claim to fame — aside from excellent ingredients — is the ingenious practice of blanketing its subs in an extra layer of meat. As we detailed in the sub shop’s 2009 Best Of award, this meat blanket serves two purposes: One, it creates an even distribution of lunch meat, allowing you to taste a little in every bite. But more importantly, the meat blanket keeps all those delicious ingredients, like sweet peppers and dill pickles, right there in the sandwich. As an added side effect, it’s pretty damn fun to watch LaSpada’s hoagie-makers fling meat across the restaurant and onto the tops of sandwiches. Finally, why the Italian special? It’s all about the capicola, baby.
