No. 7: Shrimp and Grits From Creolina’s Dixie Takeout

Chef/owner Mark Sulzinski’s landmark Cajun and Creole restaurant moved from 

Fort Lauderdale to Davie a little over a year ago. Now it churns out

homier versions of its trademark dishes. Prices are low and portions

are huge; that’s especially true of the shrimp and grits, an order of

which fills the entire oval plate it’s served on. In it, almost two

dozen plump

shrimp are bathed in a pool of pink tasso cream sauce. At the center is

a cake of fried grits that looks like a

massive cut of filet mignon, three inches wide and nearly that tall.

When you crack open the crusted tower it flows like a crème brûlée,

gobs of Monterey

jack cheese and buttered grits oozing onto the plate. It’s not exactly

healthy eating, but what good Southern food is?
