A Wellington man was arrested for allegedly imprisoning his wife for the past three years, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The wife of the suspect, Qasem Alabed, 42, claims that, along with not allowing her to leave their home, he also beat her with a television remote and a cable.

The 30-year-old victim, whose name is being withheld, had to speak to police spoke through an Arabic translator.

According to a sheriff’s probable cause affidavit, Alabed was arrested Wednesday night.

His wife, who is reportedly pregnant, met with police at Wellington’s City Hall to tell authorities that her husband not only beat her her with a cable on her outer thigh, but kept her imprisoned in their home since she arrived to the U.S. three years ago.

Alabed is facing charges of aggravated battery-causing bodily harm or disability and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman.

He is being held in the county jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, records show.
