Decoding wine speak can often be a puzzling experience. But drinking a wine that’s actually called Puzzle? That’s some crazy, self-referential smack right there.

Puzzle, from acclaimed Napa winery Newton Vineyards, will be one of the five wines on display at next Thursday’s (December 2) Newton Wine Tasting at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale. Puzzle, as it were, is an intriguing blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, and petit verdot grapes. But the night will also showcase Newton’s unique “unfiltered” varietals, a series of cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and merlot wines that aren’t filtered after fermentation, leading to a deeper flavor and stronger bouquet (how’s that for wine speak?).

Of course, the event wouldn’t be complete without Via Luna,
the Ritz-Carton’s own Italian restaurant, getting in on the mix. Expect
an Italian pairing with each wine, from risotto to grilled meats and
beyond.

Oh, and the best part: Newton Vineyard’s own
winemaker, Chris Millard, will be in attendance, speaking about his
wines and answering questions for all comers.

This meet the
winemaker event takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Via Luna terrace, as
well as the Ritz-Carlton’s gorgeous wine room. It costs $99 per person,
and you can reserve by calling 954-302-6460, or e-mailing Lehi Dowell
at lehi.dowell@ritzcarlton.
