It was already apparent that alt rock hero Steven Malkmus was going to get bloggers’ fingers waggling when he decided to team with Beck Hansen for a new solo album, Mirror Traffic. But, the timing of “Senator,” the first MP3 from the collection, is wildly appropriate given the recent Twitter-gressions of U.S. Rep Anthony Weiner.
According to the Matablog, these songs were recorded in Los Angeles over the past two and a half years (!) with Beck, but chorus to this particular number (“I know what the senator wants, what the senator wants is a blow job”) seems ripped directly from the headlines. So clever switching to the other house of Congress, fellas. I was most impressed with the cool echo effects at about the 1:52 mark, but whatever.
